The New Kid
There was a new kid in class today During kickball he didn't know how to play I felt bad for him for being alone So I went to talk to him, me being well-know He was from Germany, a far away land Where in public, you're allowed alcohol in hand His name was Jasper, this little German fellow Talking to me, he was very cool, very mellow He said he was scared, about being a new face I told him not to worry, you will find your place The next day he made more friends Even though he could not fully comprehend His shyness began to fade away More and more everyday He was no longer the boy who could not play The nickname Jasper the Jolly German is what will stay |

My Reflection on My Poems
I chose to write my poems in a similar style as Shel Silverstein because I really enjoy his poems. When I heard that I had to write my own poems I was really worried because I really am not good at poetry. However, when I started reading Shel's poems, I became more interested. His poems are about random things, he made a poem about whatever came to mind. This is how I wrote mine. I was sitting at my homework table for a while trying to think of something that I could write that had a deep meaning and made a lot of sense. I sat there for a long time trying to come up with something, but I couldn't. So, then I took some inspiration from Shel Silverstein and wrote about what randomly came to mind. Writing poems is very difficult for me, and I tried to use Shel's style to make it easier, but I couldn't live up to his greatness. I don't even know if these poems make sense to anyone else but me, but in my opinion that's okay. I think poetry should be a way to express yourself, and surprisingly, writing these poems was kind of fun.
